“Cat in the Hat” Cupcakes coming for Halloween!

cat-in-the-hat-movieIt seems like a million years ago now, but in reality was only 6 or 7, that I was working on my book project entitled, “The Inside Dish - on the food that makes Film fabulous! for Byron Preiss Publications in NYC. The project was so original and had a lot of momentum. I was even in talks to make the project a television series.

The concept was simple. You know all those amazing food scenes you see on film? I took that delectable stuff and translated each dish into real recipes - sometimes entire menus. Did I do this on my own? No way people. Lord knows I’m no Julia Childs. I accomplished this feat with the food stylists, chef, bakers and Property Masters who originally created the food for the big screen. Having worked in the film industry myself and being married to a well-known Property Master didn’t hurt getting my foot in the kitchen door, so to speak.

Alas time got away from me and inspiration was elusive. I shelved the book project to focus more on motherhood and wifedom. I let the title registration lapse at the writers guild but thankfully will always have my copyright on the book. Rachel Ray nabbed the name “Inside Dish” for her now-defunct TV show less than 18 months later. And of course my sole focus on motherhood and wifedom lasted for all of about 15 minutes. Crib Rock was born shortly thereafter.\

So was all of it just an exercise in futility? No way. What I still have, and always will, are amazing interviews with these talented chefs, bakers, stylists and Property Masters and a vault filled with great recipes. I’ve decided to open up the “kid-friendly” portion of the movie recipe vault to share with you, the Crib Rock Blog readers. These recipes include food from the movies: “Polar Express,” “Cat in the Hat,” “The Addams Family,” “Matilda,” “The Flintstones,” “Casper,” “Newsies,” “Stuart Little,” “Haunted Mansion,” and more.

My first recipe share will be those technicolor cupcakes from “Cat in the Hat.” Remember those beautys with the mounds of great purple frosting? Your kids will thank you and if you bake them for the neighborhood Halloween party, you’ll be a rock star mom. Check back next week for the details!
